Newly renovated Stamford House on Moss Lane has attracted a number of high quality independent businesses, while the Old Post Rooms has brought stylish afternoon teas to the heart of Altrincham.
Popular specialist shops on the Downs, Ashley Road and Oxford Street areas are all well worth a visit, and this area is also home to some superb spas, including Lidos and Oxford One, as well as some outstanding bridal shops, including Agape, J'Adore and national award-winning Love Bridal Boutique.
This is also a flourishing area for bars and restaurants, with international cuisine well represented by Yara (Lebanese & Syrian), Bem Brasil, Gombay (Chinese), (Italian), New Dilli (Indian), Nahm Prik (Thai), Oriental Fire (Japanese and Korean) and Cholaas (South Indian)
Altrincham’s Market Quarter now includes the historic Market House, beautifully refurbished and reinvented as a high quality gastro hub, and proving extremely popular both with local residents and visitors from all over the North West.
The market next door boasts a fishmonger, butcher and cheese stall on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, plus great value fruit & vegetables, plants and flowers and a variety of regular stalls including ladies fashion and bags & luggage. The weekly Sunday markets are deservedly very popular; offering the best in North-Western produce and unique products, with a regular schedule of different themes.
Adjacent Greenwood Street, Market Street and Shaws Road also boast some unique shops, restaurants and bars, including three excellent specialists of Belgian beer in Pi, Mort Subite and the Belgian Bar, plus cocktail specialists Riddles.
To help make the most of your shopping time, a number of key retailers and eateries are also open on Sundays with core opening times between 10am and 4pm.
As well as superb retail and food and drink, Altrincham has much to offer on the leisure front. Altrincham's Silver Blades ice rink is the only permanent ice rink in Greater Manchester, offering lessons, leisure skating, competitive ice hockey and seasonal ice shows.
The new Cycle Hub at Altrincham interchange and three specialist cycling retailers in the town centre (Bike Shak, Velo Espresso and Starley) make Altrincham an attractive destination for cyclists.
Bars and pubs including The Green Room, Embrace and the Old Market Tavern are bringing more and more live music to the town, and the Garrick and Little Theatre run a year-round programme of plays and shows from in-house and visiting performers.
Creative arts are also well represented by Art with a Heart, (an independent Arts and Heritage centre and member of the Independent Museums Association delivering a free regular programme of exhibitions), Local Creation (an arts centre offering studio space to local artists and regular exhibitions) and Open Studos Altrincham (offering regular specialist workshops in a wide variety of creative activities including painting, drawing, jewellery design and games design).
